36 week picture and traveling daddy

We went to a seminary picnic last weekend which was at a beach about 2 hours away. Nate was drafting fantasy football players on the way there which was interesting. Suddenly I hear, "OH NO!" and this is what I see next to me. We couldn't turn around so we made a pit stop at target for a new shirt but this did make me laugh :)

Apparently when red pens explode in your hand it looks like a crime scene!

As of today Nate is in FL- which I'm sure he is loving being able to see his family right now. I know that he misses them a lot. He laughs so much when he is with them so I think it is always good for him to be home hugging on them! They are a lovable bunch those Walters :) He will be packing Thursday (9-3) and Fri (9-4) and heading out Fri with a Uhaul of stuff. our friend Mark Billman is going to make the journey with him-keep him alive, prevent major story telling potentials that involve breaking down and being arrested, ya know. Although, I'm pretty sure Mark is convinced that something will happen on this trip. The goal is to arrive here in Cali on Sunday or Monday. Please pray for their safety!!

I went to the doctor today and they did the first cervical exam. I am 1-2 cm and 50% effaced. Which is fairly normal at this point. I could stay that way for weeks or go into labor tonight-so it doesn't really tell us anything! Fortunately we trust in a great God who knows the desires of our heart and listens to His children. He knows that Nate and I want to be together when Silas enters this world....even if I go into labor I trust that the Lord purpose is much greater than mine and I will be excited.

Your prayers are always a blessing though. I wish I could describe the feeling we've felt when we hear of people we've never met praying for us. That is incredibly powerful!

I am already heading into week 37 but I figured I would go ahead and post this picture anyways.

Houses, school and baby!

I'm so slow at updating this. But I'm sure when Silas is born I will have lots to update about. I'll probably only send out an email once a month but update it more often. Anyways, things that have been going on lately.
Nate with some of the ladies from the "Oldies" Bible study:

We bought a house! We actually got one!I don't have any pictures to post because they removed the listing but soon I will post them. It is a great house that had been redone on the inside with lots of fun upgrades. It also has .75 acres so we have been having fun daydreaming of starting a miniature petting zoo! So far the paperwork has gone really smoothly and we are set to close on September 10th-just in time! God really provided for us here so I'm not going to be worried about any of the details of getting everything moved and such. We are fortunate to have gotten this house so quickly.

Nate is starting school this week officially so you can always pray for him to be diligent in using his time-trying to balance work, family, school, ministry. He is a busy guy! I can see that he really loves learning though so I pray that desire never leaves :)
Kathy, me and Mandy at my California baby shower:

I'm looking around now to try and see if I can have some maternity pictures taken-nothing fancy just a little better quality than what Nate and I have been doing monthly...of course I will post pictures if we get them done. All is still going great with the pregnancy. We are official lamaze graduates and touring the hospital tonight-we are as prepared as we can be! Silas is growing well and me too as you can see by the pictures. He has hiccups ALL the time. He moves like crazy during worship service-we will see if that means he loves or hates music.

Oh and I also scare him quite often. You see, I'm not used to this belly popping out. I get food on it because I hit the counter-I'm like a human washcloth. A lot of times when I cook it is bumping up against the counter or stove. I realized the other day that every time I pick up a pot on the stove and set it down Silas jumps as the clanging metal noise travels through my tummy. Poor guy! I imagine it is the equivalent of an alarm clock made of cymbals - yeah, that's why we don't have those, it's a horrible way to wake up!

Here is the latest belly shots:

32 weeks

Here is the latest shot of the belly. Silas is moving around well, still has a strong heart beat and is growing :) I was finally able to keep my weight to what the doctors requested between my last appointments.....I started back at the gym. When I got on the scale I was thinking, "Please be good, please be good" And I only gained 1 lb (they suggested 2-3lb this last time) I said, "YES!" out loud and Nate started laughing at me. So I am enjoying my time at the gym again and hoping that it keeps doing it's job too!

We haven't gotten a house yet. We offered on a house and our offer was rejected-we are going to keep watching the house because it is likely that the bank will lower the price (because it is over priced and they aren't getting offers on it) and then maybe we will try again. Otherwise we are still looking as things come available.

The post below is also new and more important than anything I've written here so if possible, read it :0)

Baptism

I was baptized 2 Sundays ago by Nate. This might seem strange because I'm 24 but if you keep reading, I explain it all :) A lot of people came to show their support and it was great to see how many relationships I have built here in just a year. Nate spoke about what baptism is and why we do it and then I shared my testimony. After that we went outside to the hot tub which is the video below. I know most of you won't read this but for the few who do-This is quickly what baptism is and how I came to follow after Christ.

From Nate:
In the book of Acts when we encounter the early church, we read of people repenting of their sin and placing their faith in Jesus to be their Lord and Savior. The next step to follow in their life is baptism. Peter says in Acts 2:38 ~ “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”

At the end of the gospel of Matthew we come to a passage that is very common to many of us ~ “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” Because Shalane has become a disciple of Jesus Christ she wants to submit to the authority of Scripture and obey Christ’s commandment.

So what is baptism? Baptism is a ceremony in which a person who has believed in the gospel in return is immersed into water. There is no saving element of the water, and the ceremony itself has no saving power. There is nothing special about this water. God in his grace has already granted Shalane faith that leads to salvation.

Is there more to baptism than the act of immersion? Baptism is a physical analogy of a great spiritual truth. The act of immersion symbolizes one dying with Christ, being buried with Christ, being raised with Christ, and being made alive with Christ all by God’s power. Today’s baptism symbolizes Shalane dying to her old self and being made alive in Christ to walk in newness of life. Here are two passages from the bible that explains this wonderful spiritual truth.
Roman 6:3-8 & Col. 2:11-14

My testimony:
When I was 14, a friend invited me to church and youth group. My sister and I both started attending, made new friends, sang worship songs, and went through a confirmation class. At the end of the class I was baptized and confirmed in front of the church. I was very excited to learn about God but I was left on my own after the class. I continued to go to youth group and church on Sundays but by my senior year of high school church had lost priority to sport practice or games. I didn't know what baptism really was, I just knew it was part of the class.

Although my presence at church decreased, my desire to actually know God did not. During my freshman year of college, I quickly found a college ministry to attend. I would go to worship, pray, listen to a pastor speak every Wednesday night, along with 300 other college students. I wanted to become more involved so I tried church a few times but I used the “this church is too large for me” excuse. My heart sank as I heard a message about being ‘lukewarm’ because I knew that I was lukewarm. I lived a morally 'good' life, stayed out of trouble, worked hard in school, and thought that I probably only dishonored God in some 'gray' areas yet, I knew one thing, I was not reading my Bible or praying. Therefore, I brought my Bible to college and intended to read it. Immediately I realized that I had no idea what I was doing with this book and had no idea where to start. Still lost in the attempt of Christianity and not knowing who to ask for help, the Bible went to the side only reappearing on Wednesday night. And this routine continued until my senior year of college.

My sister invited me to a BBQ by the Navigators the week we returned to school for my senior year. In the first few meetings I met people who remembered my name and would not stop asking me questions. It was clear that they really wanted to get to know me and were not going to stop talking to me until they did! They continued to invite me to game nights, dinner, pickup games, and Bible study. I quickly joined a girl's Bible study, attended the group night, started attending a church with a few of the other students and soon after I started meeting with a leader for discipleship.

For the first time, I was learning how to pray by listening to the leaders and other students talk to God, studying the Bible more than once a week, enjoying true fellowship and finally met people who could answer my questions. This was not the first time I had heard of Christ but this was the first time that I understood what it meant to follow Him. I never wanted to be lukewarm and apart from God; now God was providing me the tools to learn about my sin, my relationship with Christ and how to lead a life pleasing to Him.

I don’t remember a date that I prayed a prayer or committed my life in some other way but I can look back and see that my life was changing. During a fall conference with the Navigators, we split into groups for different workshops. I remember very specifically a moment that took place during the workshop I attended. At the end, we were handed a booklet that listed pages of emotions and scripture that related to these emotions. We were asked to pick an emotion we felt now, read the verses, pray and then explain to the group why we chose this/how the scripture encouraged us. I stopped on the word 'joy'. As I opened my mouth to talk with the group an unexpected rush of emotion came forward. I explained that for the first time I was experiencing joy and I couldn't describe it perfectly but it was different than happiness. The leader, Deb, asked me what the difference was. I responded that happiness was temporary, the way you feel after passing an exam, it comes and goes but joy did not. The joy of being in a relationship with Christ was now part of me and it didn't matter what was going on around me. I knew this joy was permanent.

This proved to be true over the coming months in which I experienced several events that would have taken my joy without Christ. Instead, I clung to every promise I was learning and my desire to learn increased as I spent more and more time in the Word. Regardless of my lack of Biblical knowledge, there was one thing I knew for sure-the gospel. Christ came here and died for my sins, which were more numerous than I thought, so that I could have a relationship with God now and in Heaven. I wanted and still want to live my life saying thank you for His grace which even now I can’t comprehend. Although living as a follower of Christ is not necessarily easier, it certainly is better. I am continually growing in humility, awareness of sin, knowledge of God's goodness and my love for people.

If you've made it to this point, then you should be able to see that although I was baptized at 14, I didn't know the meaning of it and I was not actually living my life for Christ. As I began to read and study the Bible, I realized that Christ commands a person to believe (not just knowing who he is but being willing to make a commitment to follow Him) and THEN be baptized. At this point I have made that commitment and now I've also been obedient to Christ's command in baptism.

Tumble weeds again!

Back from Florida! We had a great time visiting everyone and we did get to visit pretty much everyone. Coming home means going from visit to visit-sometimes we leave the house and don't come back til that night. We must be loved to be invited to spend time with people all day! However, I don't think I got to see the beach at all :( In the couple of days that we had free time, I think it rained or was incredibly hot and I'm pretty sure pregnant women should avoid temperatures like that-at least this one! I have entered the 'hotter' phase of pregnancy-I think I need a special deodorant with supa powerful antiperspirant. Actually, i can laugh myself into a sweat at this point which is kinda harmful because then it makes me laugh even harder! I still say that I would rather be hot than cold. Anyways, we enjoyed our visit home complete with a wonderful baby shower and my mom's wedding. It was kinda funny to push an empty stroller and car seat through the airport and we had to explain that one several times but next time it will be filled with a lil baby! I am leaving for College Camp in an hour so I better go get ready-sorry I can't write more but enjoy a few pictures and there are more on facebook if you have access to that. Pray for Nate because he will be home alone for 4 days-and I'm taking his friends with me LOL

The Kids:

We can never get it right:

Fishing-check out Nates new favorite hat-he wears it here too!
The result of his cast:

The result of my 'big' cast:

My friend Alisha (30 weeks with MacKenzie) and me (27 weeks with Silas)

Mom's wedding:

Princess and the Pea-that's how I've found her lately when I come home.

The latest baby shot- I tried for every 4 weeks but we missed a week since we were in FL-this is at 29 weeks. Had to change shirts again cause the teal one was too painful! My latest Dr. appointment went well. The Dr. was really sweet this time and was surprisingly not harsh about my weight gain (another 7 lbs) I told her I am going back to the gym now that we are back from FL and I'll try working on it. She said that I looked great, checked Silas' heartbeat which was 154 as usual (he even kicked the monitor) and she said that I was measuring on the small end of normal. I hope that means Silas will not end up being 9 lbs! I go to the dr. every 2 weeks now for appointments which means it is getting much closer! I had to get a shot because of my blood type and it wasn't bad at all-I did jump but anyone would when they get poked from behind with something sharp LOL

Visiting Florida and our Responsibility

Torn-that's kinda how I've been feeling the last few days as we get ready to visit Florida. I just have this sense that it is going to be really tough to get on the plane and fly back to California. My heart feels a little torn. I want to see everyone so much and be 'home' and Nate is counting down everyday too. At the same time we have started looking for houses here, knowing that we will be here for seminary and we need a tad bit more space than what we have now! A year ago we were working towards buying property in FL to build our first house. Wow-it's been a year! It's so funny to think about what our plans were a year ago and compare them to now. Thankfully, I am confident that the Lord has us right where we need to be. I just hope that I can be faithful to trust in that through out all the changes that are going to occur in the next few months.

I'm really looking forward to meeting Silas. I don't picture him as a little squished up fetus any more LOL I think about playing with him outside all the time and wonder what he will look like, what his personality will be, and how he will serve God. I'm pretty sure one thing is guaranteed-he will be goofy! Or as Nate's family says "he just ain't right". With the 2 of us as parents, he will have to be slightly off LOL I've also started thinking more about decorating a baby room-although we may not have one right away, it is still fun to think of preparing a space for him to grow up. But most of all, I think about being parents that will teach our son to love the Lord and to love people.

I just finished listening to a sermon about fathers teaching their sons. I really suggest that you listen to this if you have a son. I was hesitant at first because I was thinking, "I'm the mom so I don't need to know this." I think it is extremely relevant to moms-to know what our husbands are responsible for and what our sons should be learning. It gave me 10 goals to make sure that Silas knows and lives out. Even if you have a daughter, I think this is good-it still applies to what our husbands should be teaching daughters to expect from a Godly men around her. Wow, this really impacted me!!
Crucial Lessons for a Wise Father :: Grace to You

Shared via AddThis
You can chose to listen to it, download it (for free) or read it. I like to listen to it with the printed version also so I can pause it and get scripture references or re-read a part again. If this link doesn't work for you, let me know and I'll get it to you another way.

Here is how the sermon ends: If you fail, father, to teach your son to fear God, the devil will teach him to hate God.  If you fail to teach your son to guard his mind, the devil will gladly teach him to have an open mind.  If you fail to teach your son to obey his parents, the devil will teach him to rebel and break his parent's heart.  If you fail to teach your son to select his companions, the devil will gladly choose them for him.  If you fail to teach your son to control his body, the devil will teach him to give it over completely to lust.  If you fail to teach your son to enjoy the marriage partner that God has given him, the devil will teach him to destroy the marriage.  If you fail to teach your son to watch his words, the devil will fill his mouth with filth.  If you fail to teach your son to pursue his work, the devil will make his laziness a tool of hell.  If you fail to teach your son to manage his money, the devil will teach him to waste it on riotous living. And if you fail to teach your son to love his neighbor, the devil will gladly teach him to love only himself.

4 months to go

Hmm what shall I tell you about now?
Praise the Lord that my mysterious back pain is gone. It was not just muscle pain, whatever they say. I have felt muscle pains all my life through sports or falling and even during pregnancy but that was something else. A friend had a similar situation where she didn't have an infection and she had a kidney stone too small to see on the ultrasound. That's my best guess as to what it was. All I know is that I'm thankful it is gone and it never effected Silas for one second.

I've been subbing quiet a bit lately through the Christian school which is great to have one last burst of income before summer. It has been pretty tiring but nothing I can't handle. Definitely worth sticking it out! Plus that means I'm not home all day so maybe bringing lunch to school will help the weight gain that they were slightly irritating about. I go to the doctor on the 11th so we will see if I'm now gaining the appropriate weight. LOL It's hard for me to believe that I am 6 months pregnant when I look in the mirror. I guess since it's my body I just get used to the small changes that happen daily. When I look down, I don't really see a belly popping out-then I turn to the side and there it is-some how it snuck up on me! Most people are shocked to find out how far a long I am. I've been told I am "the most normal pregnant person ever" and " The most non-pregnant pregnant person" probably due to my lack of exotic cravings, ability to still play softball and I still don't like taking naps. Although, I know that all of this could change tomorrow!
Nate and Twiggy LOVE naps though!

Nate and I really need to be better about taking pictures when we are out and about. I would love to show you pictures from the fun we've been having with the college group. We've had massive games of knock out (basketball), pool volleyball with a handcrafted net (pool cover rigged to dangle from basketball hoop) and no foul pool basketball. Like I said our church softball season is under way as well. I know that both of us have really enjoyed getting to know the 'kids' in small group times and praying together. This should be a great summer with them :)

Future Plans:
We are considering the option of buying a small house here in California in Lancaster. This would mean that we would be living about 45 minutes (down below) from the seminary that Nate will drive to 2 days a week. This would definitely save us money on rent. Rent here is not cheap and rent 'down below' is even higher. The only negative to this would be that we are away from the seminary and opportunities to serve in ministry that come thru the seminary. The benefit is that we get to stay here with the friends that we love :)

Nate's work also offered him a part time position with the company which is rare for his program. The catch- we would not be able to come home for our long anticipated vacation to FL. They would want us to cut that much shorter than we planned. This is a crazy opportunity because it would allow Nate to still be working using his degree rather than part time at who knows where. My heart immediately says NO NO NO! Lord don't take away the time with our family! But I know that I can't ignore a good thing that God is providing for us either. I want to be able to think long term and what's best for our family. I've really been avoiding thinking or praying about this because it really does break my heart to think of not spending time at home. I'm sorry if you are a family member and just hearing about this possibility on here but I probably would be in tears if I tell you on the phone. Regardless of how I may feel emotionally, I know that this is God showing his faithfulness to provide for us as we follow after Him. I don't want to seem like I am complaining- maybe I'm just tired of trying to plan ahead! It seems like I can't see past this month and when I try there are just too many factors to figure out. Again, big decisions for us!! I will be praying that God would provide us with wise counsel and discernment in these decisions.

We will be coming home on June 26th-July 7th for a visit which both of us are looking forward to VERY much. My momma is getting married on the 4th :) And I get to see my sister too!! We will probably we staying around Melbourne the whole time except in Orlando one night. Make sure you meet up with us while we are home!

Twiggy showing some love to the belly. I was trying to video the baby moving for my mom and Twiggy decided that I was just making a beautiful pillow for her :)
